In all practicality - well for an imaginary world - I really wouldn't want to live in King's Landing or the Red Keep for a long time. Really long time. Like years, decades long. Certainly not when winter is over. Because of all the dead bodies under all that rubble. (Thanks, Daenerys!) Come summer - or even spring - that place would smell to high heaven. And don't forget all the flies, maggots and other wildlife.
Yeah, they might want to rethink the seat of the Seven, er, Six kingdoms for a while.
